Due to a user monopolising CPU time on Galactica today it suffered several hours of downtime. Specifically this was down to the user using public proxies on their account. Public proxies are a huge strain on the CPU, being roughly 10 times more intensive than serving an uncached wordpress page and being run for every element on the page, not just the page itself. When you have entire schools accessing these pages, you can see how difficulties arise.
We already list CPU monopolisation as prohibited in the TOS, but we have explicitly added the operation of proxies to the prohibited list.
We apologise for the outage and are taking further steps to prevent it happening again in the future.
