My new blog/site

Postby CammyHarper on Tue Dec 16, 2008 6:24 pm

I've been working on my new site for a couple of weeks now, and purchased the hosting and domain last night.
It's yet to be completed, but the current version is http://cammyharper.com.
I'm also working on a new URL shortening/code sharing service that should be up before next monday, as I will be going on holiday.
Some of the links are still not working, so please don't mind.
The single post link doesn't work yet.
Feedback would be appreciated!

Are you going to customise wordpress or build a system from scratch? Personally, I just hacked wordpress to work the way I wanted.

The URL above is now dead. I'm assuming the current website and its design are what you've been working on.

So here is my opinion. Firstly I have to say its not a bad piece of work considering your age and experience. That's in comparison to a lot of work I've seen by so called 'web designers'. You have a pretty consistent theme throughout the site. What I would have to say is that the logo reminds of Flicker straight away and it seems like you got the idea from a photoshop tutorial. The '1.0' version image is completely unnecessary. After all it is not software you are releasing and the version shouldn't hinder anyone from using the site as it is.

The span of the website is well over 912px and so the content/text shouldn't span across the whole way. It tends to make it harder on the reader to have to look over the page and get an overview. The 'Welcome' and 'News' headers are a little big in comparison to the content below it and a tad distracting.

Other than that I can say that you put in a good bit of work. It seems fairly cross browser compatible and all that. Keep it up.

Thanks. Right now I've switched back to wordpress as I'm working on a new blog system, and a simple homepage with links to my projects. It should be ready to upload soon.

Are you developing the blog system yourself? I'm using wordpress for my new site too, although i need to update the design to work with wordpress 2.7, its currently only 2.6 compatible. You can check it out here.
